Principal Investigator
Takeshi Shimamura, PhD, MS
Dr. Shimamura earned his PhD from Western Michigan University under Dr. Bruce Bejcek. He then joined Dr. Geoffrey I. Shapiro’s laboratory at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, as a research fellow. In 2008, he was promoted to Instructor in Medicine at Harvard University after receiving the Claudia-Adams Barr Award. In late 2011, Dr. Shimamura moved to Chicago to become an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Therapeutics at Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine. He then moved to the University of Illinois Chicago, Department of Surgery and UI Cancer Center, in 2019 as a tenured Associate Professor . Dr. Shimamura's lung cancer research is supported by National Cancer Institute, Department of Defense, American Cancer Society, Lung Cancer Research Foundation, Michael Reese Pioneer in Research Award, EGFR Resisters and other private organizations.

Research Assistant ProfessorInés Pulido (Endrino), PhD, MSDr. Pulido completed her doctoral training in 2017 from the Universitat de València under Profesor Titular de Universidad Julian Carretero in Valencia, Spain. Her research focused on lung cancer. After a year of postdoctoral research training in València, Dr. Pulido came to the US to join the Shimamura lab at UIC through a postdoctoral research exchange program. She officially joined the Shimamura lab in September of 2019 as a postdoc and has been promoted to Research Assistant Professor in September 2024.

Postdoctoral Research AssociateMohammad Amir Mishan, PhD, MS
Dr. Mishan completed his PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran. His research has spanned multiple cancer types. He then began his journey as a postdoctoral fellow in the US at the Medical College of Wisconsin and has joined the Shimamura Lab as a postdoctoral research associate in October of 2024.

Lab Manager/Sr. Research SpecialistLaura Gunder, MSLaura completed her Master's of Science in Nutritional Sciences with a focus in Biochemical and Molecular Nutrition under Dr. Dave Bridges at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. She began oncology research in 2019, studying anal squamous cell carcinoma under Evie Carchman, MD at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Laura then joined the Shimamura lab in September 2023.
