Principal Investigator
Takeshi Shimamura, Ph.D., M.S.
Dr. Shimamura earned his Ph.D. degree from Western Michigan University under Dr. Bruce Bejcek. He then joined Dr. Geoffrey I. Shapiro’s laboratory at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, as a research fellow. In 2008, he was promoted to Instructor in Medicine at Harvard University after receiving the Claudia-Adams Barr Award. In late 2011, Dr. Shimamura moved to Chicago to become an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Therapeutics at Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine. He then moved to the University of Illinois Chicago, Department of Surgery and UI Cancer Center, in 2019 as a tenured Associate Professor . Dr. Shimamura's lung cancer research is supported by National Cancer Institute, Department of Defense, American Cancer Society, Lung Cancer Research Foundation, Michael Reese Pioneer in Research Award, EGFR Resisters and other private organizations.

Postdoctoral Research FellowInés Pulido, Ph.D., M.S.Dr. Pulido completed her doctoral training in lung cancer research in 2017 from the Universitat de València under Profesor Titular de Universidad Julian Carretero in Valencia, Spain. After a year of postdoctoral research training in Valencia, Dr. Pulido came to the US in 2019 and joined the Shimamura lab in UIC through a postdoctoral research exchange program. She has continued her research in the lab as a dedicated postdoctoral research associate.

Laboratory Manager/Senior Research SpecialistLaura Gunder, M.S.Laura completed her Master's of Science in Nutritional Sciences with a focus in Biochemical and Molecular Nutrition under Dr. Dave Bridges at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. She began oncology research in 2019, studying anal squamous cell carcinoma under Evie Carchman, MD at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Laura then joined the Shimamura lab in September 2023 as the lab manager and researcher.
